Blackberry & Brie Hand Pies
BLACKBERRY & BRIE HAND PIES WITH GROUND MUSTARD HONEY SAUCE
These homemade hand pies are so easy to make, even the kids can do them! With supervision of course. All you need is a pack of store bought puff pastry, black berries, brie and some honey and mustard. Oh and one more thing, an egg to get that golden baked color that everyone loves so much.
Since the pastry is already made, you will also need about a 5” diameter glass or thin bowl to make the perfect circle pastry cuts for each hand pie base.
Ingredients
1 pack puff pastry, thawed and rolled 1/4” thick
1 egg yolk, beaten, for baking
1 small pack of blackberries
1 small package of brie cheese
3 tablespoons of stone ground mustard
2 tablespoons of honey
Instructions
Set oven to 400°F.
Roll out defrosted pastry dough to 1/4” thickness.
Use a 5” glass bowl or cup to cut out perfect circles for hand pies, usually makes about 5-6 per sheet.
Begin filling each by adding 1-2 blackberries, I do chop them up for stuffing, and a few pinches of brie to each pie circle’s center.
To each hand pie circle, using the egg wash yolk, brush along one side of the circle and then close making it a tart shape moon, and press down with a fork to seal the side. Do this to all pies.
Cut 2 tiny slits at the top so the steam can release.
Bake for 18 minutes.
For the optional honey mustard glaze, all you do is mix the honey with the stone ground mustard and spread over the hand pies!
